Hello everyone! I have been hard working on new demo for the Steam Next Fest. It involves a lot of polish compered to last demo.

If you are not familiar with Mushy Score, it is an 2D platformer where you fight endless waves of enemies for a high score. Checkout the trailer:

In this demo I replaced a lot of placeholder elements such as the main menu and the score screen.  Now it start to feel to look like an actual game! Score screen shows all the enemies that you defeated which is a feature that I like in games.

The game also has "an end state" which can be reached by killing 250 enemies. It is a tough challenge and can't wait to see if anyone is able to do that. In the demo you will also see first samples of the power up system. Mushy can plant flowers which will grow over time. When they are fully grown they will help player by either damaging enemies or helping player. This flower system has a lot of potential and can't wait to create different kinds of power ups.

One of the biggest features the game is still missing is the progression system.  Progression system will involve ability to unlock new flowers and levels. I will also experiment with improving player power and try to see if it a good fit for the game. Progression system will most likely also involve ability to make the game more challenging (similar to the heat system in Hades). One issue the game has is that the start is slow if you are doing a rerun. This is a common issue with "endless games" and hopefully this progression system will help with this issue.

I have been using Monogame for ten months and have been liking it so far. Getting started was slow but recent controversies confirmed that using Unity is not a safe choice. I have seen other engines that peak my interest like FNA, Murder Engine and Stride but I will stick with the Monogame for now.
